A Burmese Meditation Master of Theory and Practice: Sayadaw U Kumārābhivaṃsa’s 2026 Malaysia Visit Preview

Sayadaw U Kumārābhivaṃsa (born 1975) is a Burmese meditation master who possesses both top-tier academic scholarship (pariyatti) and profound meditative experience (paṭipatti).

Born in Myanmar, this Sayadaw (a Burmese title meaning “Great Teacher”) is not merely a scriptural expert holding the “map” of the Tipiṭaka; he is a practitioner who has traversed that map with his own “feet.” While many scholars focus only on reading the map and many practitioners focus only on walking, Sayadaw uses the map to verify his steps and his steps to teach the map—perfectly integrating erudition with actual practice.
