DHAMMA EARTH - KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
Welcome to Dhamma Earth Kuala Lumpur
A Sanctuary for Meditation, Dhamma Learning, and Community Welfare
Our Journey
The inception of Dhamma Earth Kuala Lumpur (Dhamma Earth KL) is a testament to unwavering dedication and collective vision. Our story began in 2015, with the search for a serene and secluded location conducive to meditation and Dhamma propagation. The journey took us through various locales, including Kuala Kerawang (Seremban) and Semenyih in Selangor. The primary criteria were clear: a tranquil environment away from urban distractions, yet accessible to the airport and educational institutions.
In 2016, through heartfelt recommendations, Venerable U Mangala and devoted supporters discovered a picturesque riverside near a hilly forest in Semenyih. The serene landscape resonated deeply, leading to the acquisition of this land by the Malaysia Dhamma Society. This site now stands as the heart of our community.
Following the purchase agreement in June 2016, Venerable U Mangala chose to observe the Vassa retreat here, marking the commencement of construction. Despite challenges posed by the rainy season and Ramadan, the collective effort of devotees, volunteers, and workers transformed the bare land into a sanctuary suitable for meditation and residence. Remarkably, the initial phase was completed in just five weeks, with subsequent developments culminating before the Kathina celebration on October 30, 2016. This rapid progress exemplifies our community's dedication and resilience.
Evolution and Growth
Since its establishment, Dhamma Earth KL has continually evolved to meet the spiritual and communal needs of practitioners. Our expansion projects have included:
-
Infrastructure Enhancements: Development of roads, utilities, and landscaping to create a conducive environment for meditation and activities.
-
Facility Additions: Construction of the Sīmā Hall, meditation halls, residential accommodations, and kutis by the lake for monastics.
-
Community Spaces: Creation of an outdoor fitness playground, the Sayadawgyi's kuti and meditation hall, an expanded Pindapata hall, and an octagonal pavilion. These spaces cater to diverse functions, including reading, fitness, children's activities, leisure, and group meditation.
These developments have transformed Dhamma Earth KL from a barren land into a multifaceted center for meditation and Dhamma learning, reflecting the selfless dedication of the Sangha and the broader community.
Our Activities
Dhamma Earth KL serves as a vibrant hub for various activities aimed at Dhamma propagation and community welfare:
- Meditation Retreats: Regular sessions offering practitioners the opportunity to deepen their meditation practice in a supportive environment.
- Short-Term Ordination Programs: Camps designed for individuals to experience monastic life and cultivate spiritual discipline.
- Family and Youth Activities: Programs tailored for families, youths, and university students, fostering Dhamma learning across generations.
- Dhamma Courses: Educational sessions focusing on Dhamma teachings, leadership, and personal development.
- Community Outreach: Initiatives aimed at social welfare, including support for the elderly, orphans, and physically challenged individuals.
Recent Developments
In 2024, recognizing the need for improved accommodations, 26 female kutis were constructed. Previously, Sayalays (female monastics) and female meditators resided in temporary wooden structures and containers that had deteriorated due to environmental factors. The new kutis provide a serene and comfortable environment, enhancing the quality of meditation and Dhamma practice for female practitioners.
Currently, we are focused on building accommodations for the elderly, ensuring that senior practitioners have a comfortable space to engage in Dhamma activities. Our future plans include the construction of a new Sīmā Hall surrounded by 12 Bhante kutis, further enriching our monastic community.
