A Home for the Dhamma, a Ground for the Heart

In February 2008, something quietly beautiful began in Kuching. Five bhikkhus (monks) arrived and spent ten simple days here. It was brief—but deeply meaningful. That short visit planted the seeds of what would grow into a rare and precious spiritual journey. It sparked a deep connection between these truth-seeking monastics and the lay community in Kuching.

Back then, the laycommunity was known as Kuching Bhagavan Buddhist Society (KBBS). Later that same year, KBBS was renamed as the Malaysia Dhamma Society (MDS)—marking a new phase of commitment to the Buddha’s path.

Together with the Saṅgha, the MDS committee helped establish Tusita Hermitage in July 18, 2008. It became a place of refuge and training for monks, nuns, and lay practitioners seeking the True Dhamma.

These early retreats weren’t just about monastic training—they represented a quiet but strong vow to uphold and revive the Buddha's teachings in Malaysia. The intention was, and still is, simple and profound: to protect the original Dhamma, and to keep the Buddha’s true teachings alive for future generations.

Even as the Saṅgha and the meditators grew in numbers over years, the spirit of harmony and mutual support blossomed. Space was tight, but the minds were open—and the hearts united.

Then, in the year 2020, Tusita Hermitage was renamed as Dhamma Earth Kuching, continuing its mission under a new name—one that reflects the aspiration of the Dhamma Earth ecosystem.
